“It seems that there is an abandoned set of cabins here…”
The future of the Friday the 13th franchise has been hanging in the balance ever since we learned that the planned reboot was completely scrubbed off Paramount’s schedule – we have no doubt that Jason Voorhees will eventually be back, but we have no idea when. So for now, I guess we’re just going to have to watch fan films to tide us over until the real Voorhees returns.
You may remember that the aforementioned reboot was at one point going to be found footage, which would’ve brought Jason into the handheld, point-of-view arena for the very first time. We can only imagine that the film would’ve centered on a group of youngsters documenting their trip to Crystal Lake – depending on who you ask, it could’ve been cool or the worst idea ever.
What would a Friday the 13th found footage film look like? YouTuber Magnus Mefisto just uploaded his fan short, which imagines precisely that film. In the 3+ minute short, titled Tragic Search in the Woods, Mefisto takes a trip to the abandoned Crystal Lake. Naturally, it’s not long before he stumbles upon evidence that the legend of Jason Voorhees is quite true.
