‘The Dark Tower’ TV Series is Still Being Developed

We’re eagerly anticipating the arrival of a trailer for director Nikolaj Arcel’s Stephen King adaptation The Dark Tower, which is headed to theaters this coming August. Yes, that’s less than four months away, and we somehow still haven’t seen anything more than some stills and a poster. The wait continues. But maybe this little tidbit will tide you over a bit.

You’ve probably heard that the plan is for this year’s The Dark Tower to spawn not only a whole franchise of films set within King’s expansive universe, but also a spinoff TV series of some kind. Of course, all of those future projects will depend on the box office performance of Arcel’s film, but it’s at least good to hear that plans are still in motion to expand upon this particular world.

Speaking with TV Guide, producer Ron Howard teased future plans:

Dark Tower is coming out this summer. It’s a terrific movie directed by Nikolaj Arcel. And we are working on the television component. That’s not a commitment on the television side, but creatively it could work very well hand-in-hand with what we’d like the movies to be.

In this year’s film, which stars Idris Elba, Matthew McConaughey, Fran Kranz, Jackie Earle Haley, Abbey Lee, and Kathryn Winnick…

The Gunslinger, Roland Deschain, roams an Old West-like landscape where “the world has moved on” in pursuit of the man in black. Also searching for the fabled Dark Tower, in the hopes that reaching it will preserve his dying world.

Climb The Dark Tower on August 4th.
