Now that the film is out, we can peek behind the scenes.
As you might imagine, a movie like Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant is extensively planned out in the pre-production process using concept art from a handful of different artists. Two of the artists who worked on the film, Carlos Huante and Wayne Haag, uploaded many of their contributions to that planning phase over the weekend, and we wanted to share some of that incredible art with you this morning.
Most interesting are Huante’s early designs for Alien: Covenant‘s creatures, notably his various Neomorph concepts that were clearly much more inspired by the nightmarish Goblin Shark than the final creation was. Huante worked on the film in its early stages, so some of the creatures he was tasked with designing didn’t actually make the film. You’ll notice a massive beast named “Abomination” that was nowhere to be found in the movie, along with infected animals that were supposedly going to be David’s pets.
Haag, on the other hand, drew up a handful of shots that were faithfully brought to life by Ridley Scott in Alien: Covenant, including the crashed Juggernaut and the Covenant crew arriving on the Engineers’ home planet. There’s even a drawing of Daniels and Branson’s futuristic apartment on Earth, the setting of a deleted scene that Scott described last week.
