If you asked me to list off the best performances from kids in recent years, the two that would immediately come to my mind would be Dafne Keen in Logan and Millie Bobby Brown in the first season of Netflix’s “Stranger Things.” Both actresses delivered standout performances that were well beyond their years and even experience, solidifying them as forces to be reckoned with for years to come.
So I suppose on some level it makes sense that Millie Bobby Brown was at one point up for the role that Dafne Keen ended up landing in Logan. Speaking with Evan Rachel Wood for a Variety interview, the young “Stranger Things” star just revealed that she auditioned to play Laura/X-23 in the film!
“I went for it. It meant so much to me,” said Brown. “I was filming Stranger Things, and I was like, ‘This is gonna be amazing, I’m gonna really prepare,’ and I sat in my room reading the lines. And honestly, for me, I felt so – I felt [like] an actor, in the audition room, hitting Hugh Jackman, and [director] James Mangold sitting right in front of me.”
“It was one of the best auditions,” she added.
I have no doubt that Millie Bobby Brown would’ve been a great choice to play Laura. At the same time, it’s impossible to imagine anyone nailing the role quite like Keen did.
