Ryan Phillippe Talks Returning to Horror 20 Years After ‘I Know What You Did’
Ready to feel super old?
Incredibly, teen slasher flick I Know What You Did Last Summer turns 20 years old this October, which honestly blows my mind. Fittingly, star Ryan Phillippe, who was in his early twenties at the time, is returning to the horror genre this coming Summer with John Leonetti’s Wish Upon, a new horror flick wherein he plays, get this, a father.
We are all so old, you guys. I’m so sorry.
In a new Wish Upon featurette (below), Phillippe talks about horror allowing for his career – and life – to come full circle.
“I enjoy a good scare and especially this type of scary movie,” said the 42-year-old actor. “It reminds me of some of those movies that were around when I came up – like I Know What You Did Last Summer, or like Scream. I thought it would kinda be fun for me now, as an adult, to play a parent in a film that was like those that I started my career with.”
Headed our way on July 14, 2017, Wish Upon stars Joey King as a 16-year-old misfit who finds a magic box that promises a chance at the life she’s always wanted — only to discover that each wish demands a deadly payment.
“In the latest horror thriller from the director of ANNABELLE, 17-year-old CLARE SHANNON (Joey King) is barely surviving the hell that is high school, along with her friends MEREDITH (Sydney Park) and JUNE (Shannon Purser). So when her dad (Ryan Phillippe) gifts her an old music box with an inscription that promises to grant the owner’s wishes, she thinks there is nothing to lose. Clare makes her first wish and, to her surprise, it comes true. Before long, she finally has it all: money, popularity and her dream boy. Everything seems perfect – until the people closest to her begin dying in gruesome and twisted ways. Now, with blood on her hands, Clare has to get rid of the box, before it costs her and everyone she loves the ultimate price.”
Sydney Park (“The Walking Dead”), Shannon Purser (“Stranger Things”) and Elisabeth Rohm (American Hustle) also star.

Ian Tuason’s ‘Paranormal Activity’ Finds Lead in ‘Mythic Quest’ Actor Chase Yi
“Mythic Quest” actor Chase Yi has been cast in a lead role in Paramount and Blumhouse’s new Paranormal Activity movie, Deadline reports this afternoon.
Ian Tuason (Undertone) will direct the eighth installment in the Paranormal Activity film franchise, set to release in theaters May 21, 2027.
As for character details or plot, well, those remain scarce at this stage.
While we wait for further news on whether the demonic Toby will reappear, Tuason previously revealed to Bloody Disgusting that technology will play a huge role in his vision: “Technology — camera technology — has advanced to a point where it’s become a big part of the film and what I want to do there.”
It’s fitting, especially as it was the original Paranormal Activity that inspired the filmmaker’s haunting debut, undertone.
Paranormal Activity, created by Oren Peli, first hit theaters in 2007. Its groundbreaking minimalist approach to found-footage ghost stories has spawned a seven-film franchise that’s grossed nearly $900 million worldwide.
Franchise originator Oren Peli will produce for Solana Films, with James Wan and Jason Blum producing for Blumhouse Atomic Monster. Michael Clear and Judson Scott will exec produce for Blumhouse Atomic, with Alayna Glasthal overseeing the project for the company. Other exec producers include Steven Schneider for Room 101, Inc., Dan Slater and Cody Calahan.
Also on the way soon is the Paranormal Activity stage play.
