My Pet Monster Returning with Official Vinyl Toy!

Published

on

We have missed you, friend.

Not only did I turn 31 this year but so too did My Pet Monster, originally produced by American Greetings in 1986. The monstrous plush doll, which spawned a live-action film and an animated series, was re-animated with a talking version back in 2001, but it’s been quite a while since we’ve heard a peep from our old friend.

The good news? Creepy Company has brought everyone’s favorite ’80s monster back to life in the form of a vinyl toy, which will be put up for grabs late July ahead of an August ship date. The company’s 30th anniversary My Pet Monster vinyl figure will be available in 2 color ways: “Classic,” limited to 500, and “Shackles,” limited to 100.

Both figures stand 6″ tall with articulation in the head, arms and wrist joints.

Check ’em out below and join the Creepy Company mailing list so you’ll be the first to know when they go up for grabs. And also be sure to check out the company’s full line of My Pet Monster goodies, which includes shirts, stickers, prints and enamel pins!

Legendary Grimdark ‘Warhammer 40,000’ Artist John Blanche Has Passed Away at 78

In the grim darkness of the far future there is only war, but it was a cheerful illustrator from England who helped to define the terrifying war-torn imagery that inspired what we now know as Grimdark (a hybrid genre combining horror with sci-fi/fantasy).

Unfortunately for fans of Warhammer 40,000, Trench Crusade and countless other sources of Grimdark thrills, veteran artist John Blanche passed away this week after struggling with health issues for the past few years.

While the artist retired back in 2023, he leaves us with an enormous legacy of iconic artwork that continues to inspire gamers and storytellers around the world to this very day.

The news is especially gloomy as it was only last year that Daniel Lowman and Napoleon Dynamite himself Jon Heder released The Grim & the Dark: The Search for John Blanche, a documentary following Heder’s exploration of the Grimdark genre culminating in a heartwarming encounter with Blanche in his own home.

Below is one of my favorite pieces by Blanche, his highly influential depiction of Warhammer 40k’s God-Emperor of Mankind on his Golden Throne.

We send our deepest condolences to John Blanche’s family, friends, and fans.
