These tapes used to keep you up at night. Now they’ll keep away the darkness.
One of my personal favorite things is when artists keep the VHS format alive by doing unique things with those old tapes that many threw in the trash long ago. One artist, for example, spends his time making custom-colored VHS tapes of horror favorites, while another is literally turning tapes into horror icons.
Over on Etsy, the shop NancysJars similarly repurposes VHS tapes into new display pieces. Nancy’s particular approach? Turning tapes into working VHS lamps!
Lit from within by battery-powered LEDs, these customized VHS tapes make for truly unique lamps and/or nightlights. In addition to the pre-made lamps being sold in her Etsy shop, Nancy is also open to custom orders; she’ll turn any tape you want into a lamp, and you even get to choose the color of the lights she’ll put inside it.
