‘Mutant Football League’ Reboot Unveils a Gory Trailer

Published

on

Remember way back when a game called Mutant League Football on the Sega Genesis? I was more inclined to play its cousin, Mutant League Hockey, but I do remember how insanely fun both games were. For years, fans of those games have been bugging EA to release updated versions of the game, but to no avail. That changed when Digital Dreams Entertainment announced that they were looking to create a reboot themselves entitled Mutant Football League. And now they have a trailer to boot.

In case you’re wondering about the concept, the game is football starring monsters from the MFL such as orcs, skeletons, mutants, and even a Predator lookalike. There are the basic rules of football, but you can use things such as weapons, bombs or even bribe the ref to gain an advantage. Or, you can just beat the crap out of the opposing players after a play.

Choose from 18 teams and battle your way through several game modes: EXHIBITION, PRACTICE, PLAYOFFS, and even a FULL SEASON that will take you to the final game: The Mayhem Bowl. Also included is Tim Kitzrow (of NBA Jam and NFL BLitz fame), who will provide play-by-play as you slaughter your opponents.

For more info on the game, hit up its Facebook page, or check out the Early Access version on Steam for $24.99. The game is expected sometime in 2018 for PC, PlayStation 4 and XBox One.

Legendary Grimdark ‘Warhammer 40,000’ Artist John Blanche Has Passed Away at 78

In the grim darkness of the far future there is only war, but it was a cheerful illustrator from England who helped to define the terrifying war-torn imagery that inspired what we now know as Grimdark (a hybrid genre combining horror with sci-fi/fantasy).

Unfortunately for fans of Warhammer 40,000, Trench Crusade and countless other sources of Grimdark thrills, veteran artist John Blanche passed away this week after struggling with health issues for the past few years.

While the artist retired back in 2023, he leaves us with an enormous legacy of iconic artwork that continues to inspire gamers and storytellers around the world to this very day.

The news is especially gloomy as it was only last year that Daniel Lowman and Napoleon Dynamite himself Jon Heder released The Grim & the Dark: The Search for John Blanche, a documentary following Heder’s exploration of the Grimdark genre culminating in a heartwarming encounter with Blanche in his own home.

Below is one of my favorite pieces by Blanche, his highly influential depiction of Warhammer 40k’s God-Emperor of Mankind on his Golden Throne.

We send our deepest condolences to John Blanche’s family, friends, and fans.
