While a live action film telling the origin story of Scooby Doo’s Daphne and Velma was just announced, we’re sad to report that the voice of Daphne has passed away.
Actress Heather North provided the voice of Daphne Blake for most of the original “Scooby Doo” animated series, and we’ve just learned that she died at her home in Studio City on November 30. She was 71 years old, and had been battling an illness.
North’s run as Daphne on “Scooby Doo, Where Are You?” began with the second season premiere, and she voiced the character in every episode going forward. She subsequently reprised the role for the early ’70s TV series “The New Scooby-Doo Movies,” and again for “The Scooby-Doo/Dynomutt Hour,” Scooby-Doo Goes Hollywood, “Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo,” “The New Scooby-Doo Mysteries” and “The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo,” among other spinoff shows and TV movies.
She most recently voiced Daphne for 2003’s Scooby-Doo and the Monster of Mexico.
Heather North also appeared in a small handful of live-action films throughout her career, including Git!, I Love My Wife and The Barefoot Executive.
