20th Century Fox Trademarks ‘Alien: Blackout’ For An Upcoming Video Game

Those pesky trademarks are at it again. This time it seems we’re finally getting a new game based in the Alien universe after 20th Century Fox registered a trademark a couple of days ago for something called Alien: Blackout.

The trademark (found here on the WIPO site) pertains to a video game rather than any other media. That means we’ll be getting the first Alien game since 2014’s Alien Isolation came along and did the iconic xenomorph franchise serious justice after the dismal Aliens: Colonial Marines.

That game’s developer Creative Assembly is reportedly not working on a sequel, so Alien: Blackout may not be a continuation of that timeline in which Amanda Ripley heads to the space station Sevastopol and encounters the beasts that caused her mother to go missing after the events of 1979’s Alien.

It may not even be a regular console-based game of course, with mobile and VR also be possibilities. Whatever it turns out to be, it’s got some big shoes to fill.
