We’ve learned the sad news tonight that legendary actor Kirk Douglas, a 3-time Oscar nominee and the father of Michael Douglas, has passed away at the age of 103 years old.
Kirk Douglas is most known for his roles in films such as Champion, The Bad and the Beautiful, Lust for Life and Spartacus, but he also made a few stops in the horror world.
In 1978, Douglas starred in Brian De Palma’s The Fury, playing a former CIA agent who uses the talents of a young psychic to help retrieve his telekinetic son from terrorists.
Douglas also starred in 1973’s Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, 1977’s The Chosen, and 1980’s Saturn 3, as well as the season 3 “Tales from the Crypt” episode titled Yellow.
“It is with tremendous sadness that my brothers and I announce that Kirk Douglas left us today at the age of 103,” Michael Douglas wrote on Instagram. “To the world, he was a legend, an actor from the Golden Age of movies who lived well into his golden years, a humanitarian whose commitment to justice and the causes he believed in set a standard for all of us to aspire to. But to me and my brothers Joel and Peter he was simply Dad, to Catherine, a wonderful father-in-law, to his grandchildren and great grandchild their loving grandfather, and to his wife Anne, a wonderful husband.”
Douglas continued, “Kirk’s life was well lived, and he leaves a legacy in film that will endure for generations to come, and a history as a renowned philanthropist who worked to aid the public and bring peace to the planet.”
