Generally speaking, as soon as the calendar reads September 1, horror fans start prepping for the Halloween season. This, then, typically means building up a massive list of horror movies we’ll be watching for October, which often deliver unsettling experiences.
Not all seasonal favorites need to deliver unrelenting terror, of course, and some audiences like to warm up to the more disturbing movies and use the month of September to pave the way for Halloween. One movie that has become a favorite bridge between the vibes of fall and the outright eeriness of Halloween is 1998’s Practical Magic. Based on the novel of the same name by author Alice Hoffman, the Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman movie not only had an autumnal aesthetic, it also embraced supernatural components, making it required annual viewing for fans.
Nearly three decades later, Bullock and Kidman reprised their roles as sisters with a witchy family lineage for Practical Magic 2. Just in time for Halloween, the movie is set to hit Digital on October 13. The movie will then hit 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD on December 1.
The upcoming home video release will come with a number of behind-the-scenes features that chronicle the long-awaited reunion of the characters and how the entire endeavor came to life.
Starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman, Practical Magic 2 returns to a world steeped in moonlit mischief and powerful ancestral magic, as the Owens sisters must confront the dark curse that threatens to unravel their family once and for all in a must-see cinematic event of fun, magic and mayhem. Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest also reprised their roles from the original movie, with newcomers to the series including Joey King, Lee Pace, Maisie Williams, Xolo Maridueña, and Solly McLeod.
Part of what made this sequel so notable is that, when the original was released, both Bullock and Kidman were stars on the rise. Even though the movie itself didn’t massively elevate their fame, it became a cult-favorite over the years, with the pair regularly expressing their interest in returning for another chapter. Knowing that they have become Hollywood superstars made it all the more surprising that they would be able to find time in their schedules to deliver another whimsical rom-com.
Practical Magic 2 hits Digital on October 13 and hits 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD on December 1. Both movies will also be available in combo packs.
