Outside of its very first season, Fox’s The Simpsons has delivered audiences an animated tribute to Halloween in their annual “Treehouse of Horror” episodes, of which there have been a staggering 36 installments up to this point. Additionally, the series has delivered Halloween- and horror-themed episodes like “Halloween of Horror,” “Not It,” and “Simpsons Wicked This Way Comes.”
Many think that The Simpsons crawled so a series like Family Guy could walk, with the Seth MacFarlane-created series following The Simpsons‘ suit not just with the series proper, but also by delivering Halloween Specials. This year’s Halloween Special, “Happy Hell-o-ween,” has released a trailer, which you can view below. The new episode will premiere on Hulu on October 5.
Hulu describes this year’s special, “Brian and Stewie find themselves in Hell — not an annoying day, the actual underworld — paying for 24 seasons’ worth of bad behavior. When they manage to annoy even the Devil himself, they end up in charge.” Kieran Culkin guest stars in the episode to voice the Devil.
While Family Guy doesn’t have quite as long of a legacy as The Simpsons, the series has still managed to tally quite a few episodes devoted to October 31. Over 24 seasons, the series has delivered episodes like “Petergeist,” “Halloween on Spooner Street,” and “Peternormal Activity,” which either embrace the traditions of the holiday directly or pay homage to beloved horror movies.
Family Guy continues to entertain its die-hard fan base with razor-sharp humor, spot-on parodies, spectacular animation, and orchestra-backed original music. Since its debut in 1999, the series has reached cult status among fans, and its breakout star, a talking baby, has become one of the greatest TV characters of all time. Family Guy has racked up numerous awards, including an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Comedy Series, only the second animated series in television history to be honored with such a distinction. Series creator and lead voice actor Seth MacFarlane (voices of Peter Griffin, Stewie Griffin, Brian Griffin, and Glenn Quagmire) was nominated for the 2021 Emmy Award for Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance and won the 2016, 2017 and 2019 Emmy Award for that category. MacFarlane was nominated in was nominated in 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2018. Alex Borstein (Lois Griffin) won the 2018 Emmy Award in that same category and was nominated in 2013, 2019, 2023 and 2024.
Family Guy’s “Happy Hell-o-ween” premieres on Hulu on October 5.
