It’s The Blob, baby!
Birthday month is now firmly in the rearview mirror. Despite all of the fun and games that Trace and I had with Hellraiser: Bloodline and Zombeavers (plus Single White Female and Martyrs), it’s time to move on to March.
That means crossing Chuck Russell‘s quintessential 80s remake, The Blob, off my Horror Bucket List. Thankfully Trace and I get some extra special help from fellow Bloody Disgusting scribe (and self-proclaimed The Blob fanatic), Meagan Navarro.
In the remake, a deadly entity crashes near the small town of Arborville and begins to consume anyone in its path. Panic ensues, as shady government scientists try to contain the horrific creature. Now, the only thing that stands between the town’s total annihilation is the curious pairing of town bad boy Brian Flagg (Kevin Dillon) and cheerleader Meg Penny (Shawnee Smith), who must work together to stop the rapidly growing gelatinous monstrosity once and for all.

Episode 63 – The Blob (1988)
The boys don their mullets and leather jackets for a one way trip to Arborville and something pink, purple and gooey! Along for the (motorcycle) ride is fellow Bloody Disgusting writer Meagan Navarro, who is a huge fan of the practical effects wizardry in what is arguably one of the best horror remakes ever.
This film has EVERYTHING: small character moments, subversion of expectations, and a plethora of gnarly deaths/set pieces.
Plus: Trace’s love of Shawnee Smith, an extended conversation on the value of a locked door, discussion of those FX and a death that Trace and Meagan can’t believe Joe missed!
Cross out The Blob!
