‘Condemned: Criminal Origins’ Still Hits Like a Lead Pipe to the Skull [Safe Room Podcast]
As is in life, first impressions are important. And as a result, launch titles carry more weight than most console releases. Not only ushering in a new console cycle, but the games available on Day 1 should be a snippet of the future of that cycle.
And for the Xbox 360, that Day 1 horrifying look into the future was Condemned: Criminal Origins.

Not only a horror game from Monolith Productions, but a more hardcore one than the action hybrid of say F.E.A.R. Condemned not only looked gorgeous, evoking attention to lighting that would make David Fincher smile, but the game’s visceral approach to melee combat gave it the weight that a new era of gaming should have.
Keeping the horror never more than an arm’s length away made Condemned a game that quite literally got in your face and stayed there. A game that refused to be shrugged off and showed the horrifying potential of a new console generation.
