Gemma Files on Found Footage Fiction, Haunted Temporary Spaces, and Clive Barker [The Losers’ Club Podcast]
Gemma Files has been writing horror, fantasy, and “weird” fiction for decades, picking up a number of accolades along the way. Her latest honor is a Bram Stoker Award for last year’s short story collection In That Endlessness, Our End.
It’s an incredible collection, many of its unnerving stories unfolding via email threads, podcast transcripts, and other hyper-modern chains of communication. Unknowable horrors reside in light fixtures, smartphones, and the walls of one supremely fucked Airbnb. The monsters here permeate the atmosphere, suffused as it is with zeroes and ones.
In the latest installment of The Losers’ Club’s On Writers series, co-hosts Randall Colburn and Mel Kassel talk to Files about bridging the cosmic and mundane, “found footage fiction,” and the haunted nature of “temporary spaces.” She also discusses her enduring love for all things Clive Barker.
