The Boo Crew Talks ‘Insidious: The Red Door’ With Patrick Wilson!

In celebration of the release of the fifth chapter in the franchise, Insidious: The Red Door, franchise star Patrick Wilson stops by Bloody Disgusting’s Boo Crew Podcast to discuss not only his journey in the role of Josh Lambert but on his transition into the Director’s chair as well.

The Insidious series has been a terrifying adventure exploring various central characters and timelines since the original film arrived in theaters 13 years ago. This latest tale picks up right after the events of 2013’s Chapter 2. Patrick had this to say when asked if he had any concept of where the Lambert’s story could go moving forward.

“I have no idea! I don’t. You know, the tag at the end of the movie, if you stay thru the credits, was as much to show that you need a balance of light and dark, you know, and clearly, you guys work at Bloody Disgusting, like… you need both in your life. You do. You do. Alright, we need… it’s why I wanted to sing with GHOST at the end. That balance is kinda what it’s all about, right? Where does the light shine brightest? In the dark. They don’t work without the other so where do I think it could go…” he adds, “It feels pretty final for the Lamberts as a family unit. Now that being said, come back in ten years, it’d be cool to do kinda like the boyhood thing before, but for now, we’ve definitely closed the door – in more ways than one.”

In addition to bringing Josh Lambert to life, Patrick is also known for portraying paranormal investigator and demonologist Ed Warren in the most successful horror franchise of all time, The Conjuring Universe. He offers an update on the beloved characters and films.

The easy answer is, yes I think there will be a Conjuring 4. Obviously, with the writer’s strike that has changed the dynamic of our whole business right now, and rightfully so, may I add, but I have a feeling that will be worked out at some point, so yes, hopefully, we’ll wrap it all up with number four, and I know they’re talking about a series. We’ll see. I think what we know there is Vera and I have a great time together, and I think we’re pretty conscious of the impact of Ed and Lorraine Warren ‘cause I can weirdly be a fan of them too if that sounds weird! I kind of love playing him, you know, and kind of I do… and so I’d be curious where the series goes, and I think if you look at, like, The Last of Us, right? If you said okay, we’re gonna take a video game and make this incredibly moving story, that kind of hasn’t been done. So, I think that’s an interesting template for what kinds of stories you could tell, obviously not.. has nothing to do with the plot but just the idea that you could take something that is known in one medium and what would happen if it were over long-form, what does it become? What can you explore in their own life? So that’s the long answer. The real short answer is I haven’t read anything, so I know nothing other than talking to people and what they’re working on, so yeah, I’m excited! Nothing’s set in stone, we haven’t signed any contracts, but we are certainly game to listen.”
