There be monsters everywhere if only you know how to look for them. It’s time for family insanity to get upped a notch or two in “Sinergy” #2. College life or demon hunting life beckons for our new Seer and the clock is ticking on which path young Jessica will go down.

It’s refreshing to see how lo-tech these monster hunters are. We find Jess and her dad hanging out in a truck, staking out the hangouts of demons and such. Their weapons are lo-fi as well and have no real trappings of what readers expect. I and I can only assume most other fellow Canadians, know the value of using a good hockey stick to whack something but good. Once again, I’m very impressed with how Michael Avon Oeming is making something new and distinctive out of this series with a very tried a true premise.
Creative virtuoso Oeming is flexing more of his imagination muscles here as the monsters Jess and her father encounter are all completely unique and captivating. The coloring by Taki Soma continues to impress me with its bluntness and boldness. I’m reminded of the uber classic TV shows like Batman ’66 and the 1960s Spider-Man by the choices and placement in this issue.
Fighting monsters isn’t fun or glamorous in the world of Sinergy. It can be downright terrifying. I like all the places being set out here and where this could lead to in the future. I really like how lucky I am to be seeing this new world from Oeming grow and develop month by month. I hope you can read and appreciate how this series look simple and yet feels much deeper than it appears. It can be taken in as a light and fluffy monster bashing story. Or, as I see it, you can read it as a rare look at how legacies and heroism can really affect you.
