‘Monsters’ Stars Whitney Able and Scooter McNairy Talk Briefly About Sequel

Published

At the Saturn Awards in Los Angeles last night I briefly caught up with Whitney Able and Scoot McNairy, the married co-stars of last year’s terrific low-budget effort Monsters, which was helmed by upcoming Godzilla director Gareth Edwards. While Edwards won’t be returning to the director’s chair for the follow-up (and while Able and McNairy won’t be starring – MINOR SPOILER ALERT – for reasons obvious to anyone who paid close attention to the first few minutes of the movie), McNairy did offer up a few little tidbits on the project’s development.

We are not involved in it [as actors],” he said. “[But] I’m producing the film [with Gareth]…We’ve just been kind of…hashing out the treatment for the new one. It’s gonna be the same style, [but a] new storyline, new characters. And it’s in development right now at Vertigo Films.

As for plot specifics…

We can’t say anything about it…[but it takes place] the same world. I think it takes place about seven years after our storyline.

Oh, and I’m not sure if this has been said before, but one of the titles they came up with for the first film initially was “Far From Home”…which, for the record, I’m kind of glad they ditched.
