Photographer Joshua Hoffine is someone we’ve covered before on Bloody-Disgusting. However, his new set of images are way too good to not highlight as he has taken on the task of trying to recreate the feel and style of H.P. Lovecraft‘s “Shadow Over Innsmouth”, which was written in 1931. And, by god, he nailed it!
On top of photographing a beautiful shot of a man (that’s actor Doug Jones from Pan’s Labyrinth and Hellboy!) who is beset upon by the Innsmouth natives known as the “Deep Ones”, who appear quite scaly and fishy, Hoffine also shot several portraits of the monstrosities, “…as genuine wet plate photographs utilizing photo technology from the 1800’s.” The end result is fantastic as he obviously spared no expense in making this as glorious as possible.
By utilizing the help of wet plate photographer Steve Wilson (not the guy from Porcupine Tree, sorry) and Anthony Kosar of Kosart Studios for the special FX, Hoffine has created something that I’m sure Lovecraft himself would approve of.
