Here’s How Much Everyone Makes on a Blockbuster Movie

Godzilla

When it comes to Hollywood blockbusters that have massive budgets (think Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice), horror is a genre that is, for the most part, left out of that discussion. Sure, we get the occasional movie like World War Z, Pacific Rim, or Godzilla, but horror is often seen as a “cheap investment, large return” venture. Example: Insidious, which had a budget of $1.5 million, took in nearly $100 million.

But have you ever found yourself wondering where those massive budgets go? How they are spent? Well, Vanity Fair has created a video that cleverly breaks down the budget of a hypothetical $200 million movie and who gets what from that pie. From the director to the greensman to the seamstress to the casting director, it’s all there. The video does however exclude, “…non-human costs, and reflects an approximation of the take home pay of all humans involved, based on average union rates.

The video description does also add a disclaimer stating, “Please note not every budget breakdown is the same, and some roles are subject to wider fluctuations than others. This is here to serve as approximations based on a hypothetical film which has never been made.
