Kino Lorber and Raro Video to Release Abel Ferrara’s ‘Napoli, Napoli, Napoli’ on Blu-ray

Published

Abel Ferrara’s Napoli, Napoli, Napoli is a very interesting looking movie. It’s not a horror movie by any stretch, at least as far as I can tell, but I’ve always considered Ferrara to be a genre filmmaker so I consider this worth sharing.

It’s also kind of fascinating that Raro Video is releasing the film on Blu-ray. The majority of Raro’s releases are of films from the 70’s and older. They have released a few 80’s films and a few years back they released 2010’s Ubaldo Terzani Horror Show. Napoli, Napoli, Napoli came out in 2009 so it would be the second newest film released by Raro.

The synopsis of the film describes it as a “harsh representation of the city” and when you couple that with Ferrara’s background I think there could be a real darkness to this movie. So while this may not be horror in the general sense, there could very possibly be some real world horrors in play.

Kino Lorber and Raro Video will be releasing Napoli, Napoli, Napoli on Blu-ray July 12th.

Synopsis:
With his crooked face and rough demeanor Abel Ferrara looks and act like he could have been born in Naples, Italy, the subject and location of his raw and “hyperreality” film Napoli Napoli Napoli. Inspired by real events, this docudrama, narrated by the director, depicts a young woman metaphysically lost in the passionate and vibrant streets of Naples. Ferrara takes the viewer through the neighborhoods and parks of Naples while starkly showing the division between the classes. The undercurrent of characters associated with a women’s prison penetrate the narrative with a message of injustice and despair. Though criticized by some for its harsh representation of the city, the outcome is a portrayal of a city that no one has yet figured out, and that so many love, but also criticize; a city that has much to discover, but can never be known well enough. Ferrara depicts Naples through the words of the excluded and marginalized, portraying the chaotic mosaic of the Neopolitan universe with lucidity and love, characteristics that only he knows how to express with such intensity and immediacy.

Hokum Review - Hokum Digital Release Date

After scaring up a strong theatrical run, Oddity director Damian McCarthy’s Hokum heads home to Digital this week.

Settle in for a spooky supernatural chiller as Hokum arrives on all Digital platforms to rent or own beginning June 2, followed by a Blu-ray/4K Ultra HD Combo and DVD release on August 11, 2026.

Adam Scott (“Severance”) stars in Hokum as reclusive novelist Ohm Bauman. When he retreats to a remote Irish inn to scatter his parents’ ashes, the staff’s tales of an ancient witch haunting the honeymoon suite take hold of his mind. Disturbing visions and a shocking disappearance draw Ohm into a nightmarish confrontation with the darkest corners of his past.

Peter Coonan (“The Alienist: Angel of Darkness”), David Wilmot (“Station Eleven”), Florence Ordesh (“Departure”), Michael Patric (“Frontier”), Will O’Connell (“Game of Thrones”), Brendan Conroy (“Bodkin”), and Austin Amelio (“The Walking Dead”) also star.

Get a peek at the upcoming physical media release below, including a few special features.

Spooky Pictures’ Roy Lee (Weapons) & Steven Schneider (Insidious) produce alongside Image Nation’s Derek Dauchy (Late Night with the Devil), Tailored Film’s Ruth Treacy, Julianne Forde, & Mairtín de Barra, and Cweature Features’ Ken Kao & Josh Rosenbaum.

I wrote in my review for Bloody Disgusting, “A quaint Irish hotel with a deeply haunted history awaits an American writer in McCarthy’s third outing, continuing his streak for folkloric tales of supernatural karma and spine-tingling terror with a dark sense of humor.”

What’s next from Damian McCarthy? He’s currently writing a haunted house movie, but recent comments suggest he may be moving into other genres beyond that upcoming project.
