When it comes to food, I have a very open mind. I’ll try pretty much anything you put in front of me, within reason of course. I’ve had bull testicles, sea urchin, alligator, ostrich, and other animals that I can’t even remember the name of. I always felt that trying new things is a great way to find out what you enjoy in life. You’re not gonna like everything but those few things that you DO love will become something you look forward to and enjoy whenever you stumble upon them again. But there are some things that are kinda creepy looking and would absolutely give me pause before taking a bite.
Case in point, this Madagascar Hissing Cockroach cake that was created by Katherine Dey. Now, there’s nothing wrong with cake (even though I’m not a sweets kinda guy) but when it looks suspiciously like a gigantic bug, I find myself cringing a little bit. Also, filling the center with Boston cream makes it kinda distressing, as though you’re eating the gross bug innards that only Bear Grylls would dare swallow.
