When people think of directors, it’s often immediately associated by a certain film that they worked on. For example, if I say “Roman Polanski”, people might jump to Rosemary’s Baby. For Tobe Hooper, it’s The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. There are certain associations we make that will enter our mind, no matter how strongly we try to avoid them.
Sculptor/artist Mike Leavitt took this concept and then combined his love of directors and their films into unique figurines. The idea is that the director would become an iconic character (or a mashup of characters) from a recognizable film of theirs. Tim Burton became a chimera of Batman, Edward Scissorhands, and Beetlejuice while Stanley Kubrick became one of the Grady twins from The Shining mixed with Hal from 2001: A Space Odyssey.
The figurines are highly detailed and lovingly created, showing both a mix of elegance and, in the case of Quentin Tarantino, viscera and gore. Check them out below and
