Are You Handing Out These Classic Halloween Candies?

Halloween means a lot of things to different people. For some it’s the opportunity to become something else, to transform for one night into a different person/character/entity altogether and for that change to not be questioned. In fact, it might be celebrated and lauded. For others, it means embracing the scary foundation and watching horror movies, decorating the house all creepy like, and getting in that “Halloween mood”. For others still, it’s a time when we get to share in the joy of children going around gathering treats and delighting in the holiday.

That last group of people have a responsibility, whether they realize it or not. It’s up to them to make sure those children have a night that they’ll remember for, well…a year. But for that year, it’s a memory that will spur them onward, making them (hopefully) cherish Halloween above all other holidays. Part of that responsibility falls in the form of what treats you offer to them, as some are wonderful while others are rather dreadful. After all, no one likes the person that hands out pencils, toothbrushes, or pennies. And if you’re one of those people and you’re reading this, stop. Go to the store and get some candy.

Now, I don’t know about some of you but every Halloween there were certain candies that I just knew would wind up in my sack. It was simply inevitable. There was something about these candies that managed to find their way in every year, for better or for worse.

So, as a way to go down memory lane, I want to highlight and call out some of these candies, most of which I’m totally okay with but others that made me sigh, put them to the side, and ignore them until they were rock hard.

Once you read through my choices, make sure to leave a comment with your favorite Halloween candy!

Caramel Apple Lollipops

These were the holy grail of Halloween candy for me. Getting a few of these made me the happiest kid on the block. They started out mellow, the caramel not overpowering and almost creamy. Then, as the apple underneath would start to appear, it would add sharp and delightful bursts of colorful flavor. If I got these, they were almost certainly gone within a week.
