Robert Zemeckis’ Hilarious ‘Death Becomes Her’ Resurrected as a Play

I guess I’m going to see a play…

One of my favorite horror movies ever is Robert Zemeckis’ “Tales From the Crypt”-esque Death Becomes Her, his 1992 quasi-zombedy that begins when a woman learns of an immortality treatment, she sees it as a way to outdo her long-time rival.  It featured the eclectic trio of Meryl Streep, Bruce Willis, and Goldie Hawn.

25 years later, it’s being turned into a play as Universal Theatrical Group is partnering with Kristin Chenoweth (Wicked, Glee) to develop a Broadway musical based on the satire, reports Deadline. Chenoweth would play the Streep role, Madeline, a stage actress whose craving for eternal youth goes bizarrely awry.

The announcement comes from Jimmy Horowitz, President, Universal Pictures and Chris Herzberger, Vice President, UTG. No other information is on offer and a spokesman for the project says it’s in its initial stages, with creative team and other particulars to follow.
