You may have already seen Will Burke‘s disturbing Garfield art doing the rounds on the internet. It makes the Monday-loathing feline into nightmarish beasts that torture his poor owner Jon. They’re very reminiscent of Junji Ito’s work mixed with one of the longest-running cartoon strips.
That inspired Pixel artist LumpyTouch to take these designs and mock up a 2D horror game with classic Gameboy visuals and suitably creepy musical accompaniment. Again, Jon is hunted by these monstrous versions of Garfield.
It has a bit of a Clock Tower vibe to it. I don’t know about anyone else, but I’ll be disappointed when the next Garfield game isn’t this.
Lumpy will release further parts in this deliciously creepy series in the near future.
