Super Yaki’s Massive Halloween Collection Includes Debra Hill Tribute for Charity

Houston-based retailer Super Yaki quickly cornered a niche market that honed in on specific facets of movie fandom, and with a sense of humor that’s amassed them a large following among cinephiles. While horror is often a frequent fixture in their offerings, Super Yaki is going big for their Halloween drop on October 8 at Noon CT.

That includes a collaboration to honor trailblazing producer Debra Hill, with proceeds going to charity.

Debra Hill was born in Haddonfield, New Jersey. She began her career in film as a production assistant, and progressed through jobs as a script supervisor, assistant director and second unit director. She served as script supervisor and assistant editor of Assault on Precinct 13, marking the start of her work with John Carpenter. Together they co-wrote Halloween, Halloween II, The FogEscape from New York and Escape from L.A. Among horror fans, its Hill’s work on Halloween that resonates the most- both in her writing of the three lead woman and her part in the casting of Laurie Strode. But Hill’s imprint on cinema exceeded both Carpenter and horror; she’s responsible for comedy hits like Clue. Her career was cut short by cancer in 2005.

Hill also championed new voices, which led to this particular collaboration with Super Yaki. In April this year, Director Jamie Blanks (Urban Legend, Valentine) shared a touching letter on Twitter in which Hill lobbied for Blanks to get his Visa so he could direct Urban Legend.

Thus, the official letterhead for Hill’s production company served as inspiration for a team up. In keeping with the spirit of Hill’s legacy and generosity, $5 of every sale will go two charities; the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and Fight Colorectal Cancer.

The Debra Hill collection isn’t the only Super Yaki collaboration with Bloody Disgusting contributors either. Our own Reyna Cervantes reclaims the Paris Hilton marketing campaign from House of Wax.
