Smell the Tomato: ‘Attack of the Killer Tomatoes’ Brand Revives… With Official Perfumes and Candles?!

Published

on

Five years after a reboot of the 1970s cult classic Attack of the Killer Tomatoes was announced – and then never actually made – the brand has returned in an unexpected way.

Yes, the Austin-based movie-inspired fragrance house Xyrena has taken the burgeoning popularity of tomato scents and formulated the first of the ‘killer’ variety.

Developed exclusively in collaboration with the creators of the cult classic Attack of the Killer Tomatoes! franchise, “this enchanting, garden-fresh fragrance opens with a citrusy top note of sweet tangerine, transitioning seamlessly into vegetal mid notes of green stems, (killer) tomato leaf, and freshly cut grass. The filmic fragrance comes to a dramatic climax with an earthy base of wild fern, wet soil, genuine Indonesian patchouli, and South African Buchu.”

“When people hear ‘tomato fragrance,’ they might initially be taken aback. However, the scent is surprisingly pleasant, fresh, and earthy,” said Killian Wells, Xyrena’s CEO and head perfumer. “Attack of the Killer Tomatoes! was ripe for the picking as a pop culture inspired fragrance.”

Attack of the Killer Tomatoes!: The Fragrance is now available as a unisex extrait de parfum and comes housed in a collectible VHS-style clamshell case with two different cover art editions to choose from: the original 1978 theatrical movie poster or 1995 Director’s Cut VHS; each with a coordinating bottle design.

The fragrance is also available as a soy blend candle in a tomato red tin with a VHS-inspired label. The fragrance will be released as an air freshener in late March, with variants for the other films in the franchise, including Return of the Killer Tomatoes, famously one of George Clooney’s first roles.

Costa Dillon, franchise creator and writer, commented on the collaboration, “It’s exactly how I envisioned killer tomatoes would smell.”

But will we be smelling a reboot anytime soon? Stay tuned…

In the original Attack of the Killer Tomatoes (1978), which spawned three sequels, “A group of scientists band together to save the world from mutated killer tomatoes.”

Writer in the horror community since 2008. Editor in Chief of Bloody Disgusting. Owns Eli Roth's prop corpse from Piranha 3D. Has four awesome cats. Still plays with toys.

Daryl Dixon’s Dog from “The Walking Dead” Has Passed Away

The real-life canine who portrayed Daryl Dixon’s (Norman Reedus) pet “Dog” on “The Walking Dead,” a Belgian Shepherd whose real name was Seven, has sadly passed away this week.

Variety notes that Seven “appeared in 26 episodes, including the series finale.”

Norman Reedus has shared a handful of behind the scenes photos to his Instagram (@bigbaldhead), paying tribute to the canine companion that he calls the “best TV buddy ever.”

Seven’s stint on “The Walking Dead” began in Season 9, originally the pet of the character Leah Shaw. In the wake of the character’s disappearance, Daryl adopts the dog as his own.

It was Reedus who reportedly pushed for his character to have a canine pal on the show.

You were a very good boy, Seven. May you rest in peace.
