Drew Barrymore has made no secret of the fact that she’d love to see Casey Becker return to the screen in a future Scream movie, but given her character was brutally – and definitively – butchered in the iconic opening moments of Wes Craven’s original slasher classic, there’s probably a good chance we’ll never see her back in character as Casey on the big screen.
But the small screen is a different story…
Drew Barrymore channels her inner Casey Becker in a new Halloween-themed commercial for Chase Bank this spooky season, and Ad Week has brought the ad online for us all to enjoy.
Barrymore again gets a call from her old pal Ghost Face in the Chase commercial. Only this time, the man behind the mask is Kevin Hart. And he’s not interested in slicing and dicing.
Ad Week previews, “The campaign’s release precedes the 30-year anniversary of the first Scream movie. In the ad, Barrymore receives a phone call, mirroring the famous opening scene of the 1996 film. This time, however, the masked caller only has good news: that she had earned cash back with Chase Freedom, the financial company’s cash back credit card program.”
“It felt right to go big with this one,” said Wittney Rachlin, general manager at Chase Freedom. “We’re also celebrating the addition of new benefits to the Freedom Flex card, so we need to make that impact. When something from your past suddenly shows up in a new way, it gets a reaction. People want to talk about it, trade memories and share it with someone who will instantly get the reference. We wanted the commercial to create that kind of moment.”
