The very first member of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre family we ever met was initially dubbed “The Hitchhiker,” played by actor Edwin Neal in the original movie. Of course, the film ended with the Hitchhiker being run over by a semi-truck, so the character’s appearance in the sequel was limited – his corpse was carried around by Chop Top, his twin brother, and Hooper revealed in the 1986 follow-up that the Hitchhiker’s name was Nubbins Sawyer.
Why are we talking about Nubbins today? Because for #MonsterMonday, NECA just showed off a sneak peek at a Nubbins Saywer action figure! Wearing real fabric clothes, Nubbins looks to be part of their retro-style line, and the company says that more details will be revealed in the coming weeks. At this time, we have no idea if he’ll be released individually or packaged alongside another toy – perhaps a re-release of Chop Top or maybe a different member of the family?
Longtime collectors may remember that Mezco released the first ever Chop Top figure as part of their Cinema of Fear line, which included the corpse of Nubbins as an accessory. They also put out a figure of the Hitchhiker based on the original film.
