Sideshow’s Jaw Dropping ‘Aliens’ Queen Maquette Was Supervised By the Film’s Artists

This is the most authentic reproduction of the Queen that’s ever been done.”

Countless different toys and collectibles of the Queen from Aliens have been released over the years, so many in fact that you’d need an entire room to display them all. But Sideshow Collectibles recently set out to make the definitive recreation of the 1986 film’s monster, and they worked with actual Aliens effects artists to achieve that goal.

Detailed in a new behind the scenes video posted by io9 today, Sideshow’s upcoming Aliens Queen maquette was made with the help of former Stan Winston Studio artists Shane Mahan and John Rosengrant, who helped design the Queen for Aliens. The duo, now part of Legacy Effects, digitally scanned the original quarter-scale maquette to ensure that Sideshow’s reproduction was as close to screen-accurate as possible.

We wanted to make sure that this piece really reflected the Queen from the movie,” Rosengrant says in the video. “It really is 1-to-1, from 1986 to today.”

More details are coming soon, so hit up Sideshow for updates.
