The Boglins Are Back With Brand New Kickstarter Campaign from the Original Creator!
One of the coolest monster toy lines of the 1980s was Mattel’s Boglins, created by Timothy Clarke and Maureen Trotto. The Boglins, rubber hand puppets that were housed inside of cage-like boxes, were conceived by Clarke as a way to get kids into puppetry – he himself was fresh off working with the Jim Henson Company on The Dark Crystal at the time – and they were marketed as gross-out pets that you could, well, wear on your hand. Sticking your hand into the Boglins allowed you to open and close their mouths and even, thanks a mechanism inside, move their eyeballs back and forth. At the time, there was nothing else on the market like them, and still to this day, the movie-quality craftsmanship is incredibly impressive.
It’s the year 2020 and guess what? The Boglins are once again taking over the world!
The Boglins are coming back in their original sizes and cages with newly evolved styles, Clarke has announced today, launching a Kickstarter campaign that has already smashed through its funding goal within mere hours. With $30,000 already raised, that means the Boglins are *definitely* coming back in the near future, with the first batch arriving in early 2021.
The Kickstarter campaign explains, “For the first time the complete story of the 7 Bogs and the 7 Kings will be told! Fans of the original Boglins® will be excited to learn more about these lovable uglies. Anyone new to the Boglins® world will get to enjoy the fleshed out origins of these retro-collectibles. Donors will receive a Boglin® from the FIRST BATCH ever made in 2021. They can buy up to 8 Boglin® styles including the first 3 Kings, Blobkin and the glow in the dark Bog o Bones. They can even buy up and have their Boglins® signed by Tim Clarke!”
Yes, even the Halloween Boglins are coming back as part of the campaign!

Plush Dolls of Horror Icons Including Art the Clown, Jason Voorhees & Ghostface Coming to Target
It won’t be long before your local Target is stocked full of brand new Halloween items, and we’ve got a sneak peek at a couple upcoming Target offerings from Kidrobot this week.
Kidrobot has partnered with Target on a line of horror icon plush dolls, with Art the Clown, Michael Myers, Ghost Face, Pennywise, and Jason Voorhees already announced so far.
The Pennywise doll is based on Bill Skarsgard’s Pennywise from the modern movies and TV series, while the Jason Voorhees doll brings to life the new Jason Universe design.
Art the Clown is actually getting two different dolls from Kidrobot, one Art blood-splatted and holding a hacksaw and the other depicting Santa Art from Damien Leone’s Terrifier 3.
Kidrobot notes that all these dolls are coming soon to Target.com and select Target stores.
Keep your eyes peeled out there!
