Special effects legend Tom Savini is being honored with a bronze-style bust as part of Regal Robot‘s Regal Icons line.
Sculpted in a fine art style by digital artist Christian Maggi, the 7″ scale hand-painted resin piece has a realistic bronze finish with a layered patina that enhances the classic detailing.
Made under license with Savini, the limited edition bust costs $49 and will ship in 3-4 weeks.
“I consider Tom Savini my first FX teacher,” said Regal Robot founder Tom Spina. “I learned how to sculpt, mold and even punch hair reading Tom’s incredible Grande Illusions books where he shared the secrets behind his inspiring makeup effects and creature work. I spent countless hours as a teenager in my basement laboratory, following the tips in those books and making rubber heads and monsters!
Spina continues, “In the years since, as a film prop conservationist, my studio’s had the honor of restoring incredible treasures of Savini film history from Creepshow, Friday the 13th, ‘Tales from the Darkside,’ Day of the Dead and more. When we dreamed up the Icons line, Tom Savini was one of the first on our list and we’re so honored to pay tribute to this legend and his work!”
Savini joins Phil Tippett (Star Wars, Jurassic Park, RoboCop) in Regal Robot’s “Icons of Special FX” collection, which will further expand in the coming months.
Savini’s unforgettable effects in the likes of Friday the 13th, Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, Creepshow, The Burning, and Maniac earned him the nickname The Sultan of Splatter.
He has also appeared on screen in such films as From Dusk Till Dawn, Django Unchained, Planet Terror, Machete, and Terrifier 3.
Savini was hand-selected by George A. Romero to direct the 1990 version of Night of the Living Dead. More recently, he designed The Grabber’s mask for The Black Phone.
