Netflix Confirms “Punisher” Spin-Off: “Hannibal” Alum Serving as Showrunner

In what is blindingly obvious yet still incredibly exciting news, Netflix has confirmed that they are indeed working on a spin-off show for “The Punisher“, the character that made his appearance in season 2 of “Daredevil”, according to EW. Jon Bernthal will reprise his role as Frank Castle, the ex-military operative who survived a failed sting operation that cost the lives of his family and, as a result, embarks on a streak of vigilante vengeance where blood not only can but definitely WILL be spilled.

Additionally, “Hannibal” writer/executive producer Steve Lightfoot will be acting as the showrunner to the series, which is the sixth Marvel/Netflix series ordered so far.

If you haven’t seen the second season of “Daredevil”, you’re missing out on some of the most violent and intense scenes ever to hit a superhero movie. Bernthal slaughters people without a second’s thought and the camera rarely, if ever, pulls away. And his portrayal of Castle is nuanced, showing both gritty rage and surprising vulnerability when necessary.

I honestly couldn’t be more thrilled with this news. This is the kind of smart move that keeps me excited and into the whole universe that Marvel is creating. Now just give Bernthal a movie, would ya?
