Want Your Ideas to Get Into the Upcoming “Tales From the Crypt”?

Published

on

In late April, the popular website Wattpad, which functions as a hub for writers to share their stories with readers, announced the creation of Wattpad Studios, a division that would connect their authors and their ideas with Hollywood as well as a slew of online video creators.

Today, Wattpad Studios has announced that they’ve teamed up with Turner Networks to help generate ideas for upcoming shows, which includes (and specifically names) the upcoming M. Night Shyamalan-produced revival of “Tales From the Crypt“, according to TechCrunch.

Wattpad Studios head Aron Levitz hasn’t revealed too many details, simply saying, “It could be looking for story ideas, creature ideas, it could really be looking for anything.” Meanwhile, senior vice president of digital ventures for TNT and TBS Justin Williams spoke about the deal, calling it, “…a perfect intersection of content and fan engagement, where fans actually have the chance to directly influence and, in some cases even have their material optioned and developed by our networks.

So, it sounds like popular authors on Wattpad who have shown their influence and their appeal might very well hear from TNT about ideas for upcoming shows, including “Tales From the Crypt”. However, as stated above, details are still rather sketchy, so we’ll simply have to wait to see how this unfolds.

Legendary Grimdark ‘Warhammer 40,000’ Artist John Blanche Has Passed Away at 78

In the grim darkness of the far future there is only war, but it was a cheerful illustrator from England who helped to define the terrifying war-torn imagery that inspired what we now know as Grimdark (a hybrid genre combining horror with sci-fi/fantasy).

Unfortunately for fans of Warhammer 40,000, Trench Crusade and countless other sources of Grimdark thrills, veteran artist John Blanche passed away this week after struggling with health issues for the past few years.

While the artist retired back in 2023, he leaves us with an enormous legacy of iconic artwork that continues to inspire gamers and storytellers around the world to this very day.

The news is especially gloomy as it was only last year that Daniel Lowman and Napoleon Dynamite himself Jon Heder released The Grim & the Dark: The Search for John Blanche, a documentary following Heder’s exploration of the Grimdark genre culminating in a heartwarming encounter with Blanche in his own home.

Below is one of my favorite pieces by Blanche, his highly influential depiction of Warhammer 40k’s God-Emperor of Mankind on his Golden Throne.

We send our deepest condolences to John Blanche’s family, friends, and fans.
