So, we missed this because it’s not something that usually comes across our radar but George A. Romero, the father of zombies, appeared on the second episode of the NFL documentary series “The Timeline” in a program titled “Night of the Living Steelers”. The episode examined, “…the similar legacies of filmmaker George Romero’s classic zombie films and the 1970s Pittsburgh Steelers.”
The documentary features interviews with Romero and examines how Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead became icons of Pittsburgh, mirroring the success of the Steelers during the same era. Furthermore, it investigates and revisits four films that Romero made for a series called “The Winners” that focused on the Steelers: Franco Harris: Good Luck on Sunday, The Steel Curtain, Terry Bradshaw: Thank God I’m a Country Boy, and I’m Back: The Rocky Bleier Story.
The program also interviewed “Mean” Joe Greene, Terry Bradshaw, Franco Harris, Art Rooney II, Art Rooney, JR., and Rocky Bleier.
