Writer Talks Amazon’s “Tremors” TV Series; What Has Valentine McKee Been Up To?

Don’t forget there’s also a Tremors 6 coming soon!

While Michael Gross prepares to play monster hunter Burt Gummer at least one more time, Kevin Bacon is currently gearing up for his own return to the town of Perfection. Bacon, who hasn’t been seen in the franchise since the 1990 film, will be reprising the role of Valentine McKee in an upcoming “Tremors” TV series for Amazon, and we’ve got a little update on the project.

As reported by fan site Tremors Guide, series writer Andrew Miller just appeared on the podcast The Writers Panel, and he teased what we can expect from the 10-episode series.

Interestingly, he said the show will tell a “Donald Trump story.

“The Kevin Bacon character is now 25 years older, a horrible loser in this town that had a brief moment of glory in the ’80s or ’90s and is now worse off than it was before,” said Miller. “The town is coming face to face with failure. It’s also a Donald Trump story in that it’s the notion of nostalgia as a drug that’s killing us and looking back on a time – the longer you look at that time in the mirror without accepting reality, these monsters start to grow beneath the surface. In this case it’s these worms that are literally growing beneath the surface.”

Miller elaborated on the real-world inspirations for the series:

“People are trying to get over these traumas and both empower themselves and put themselves in great danger. I think we’re not processing trauma as healthily right now as we could be. I find myself not processing trauma as well as I ought to be and feel like I’m the star of my own horror movie sometimes.”

The series will reportedly ignore the events of the sequels.
