The “American Dad” episode “Blood Crieth Unto Heaven” is one of my all-time favorite cartoon episodes. Patrick Stewart plays himself as he introduces a “lost” play. This past Sunday’s episode of “Bob’s Burgers” did something similar.
It’s Mother’s Day and Linda is sick on the night of the children’s play, so Bob is tasked with recording it for her. When Bob has issues, the kids reenact their plays at home for their mother. They’re all complete fabrications, but the mom isn’t the wiser. Tina’s story is the episode’s grand finale, spoofing James Cameron’s Aliens and mixing it with Freak Friday – as Gene exclaims, “It’s Freaky Friday Aliens!”
Tina plays Ripley, singing about her mission and crew, before confronting the Queen Alien. The two are jealous of each other and wish they could switch bodies. They do. That’s when Tina learns how hard it is to be a mother (of a dozen face huggers) and has to trick the Alien Queen to return to her body. It’s surprisingly the perfect Mother’s Day story that is brilliantly a secret marketing ploy by Fox to promote Alien: Covenant. If you missed the episode, it should be on Hulu today.
It's a classic body swapping story. #BobsBurgers pic.twitter.com/5c3pIHeByw
