Young ‘IT’ Star Reteaming with Andy Muschietti for “Locke and Key”

Published

We recently learned that IT director Andy Muschietti is on board to direct the pilot episode of Hulu’s “Locke and Key, an adaptation of the Joe Hill comic book series. Yes, Muschietti is going from adapting Stephen King to adapting King’s son, which just seems so right.

THR reports today that Muschietti is bringing young actor Jackson Robert Scott along for the ride. The child star plays Georgie in this year’s IT.

Scott will play the role of Bode Locke, the youngest of the Locke family. Filled with all the optimism and imagination of an exuberant eight-year-old, Bode is especially attuned to the supernatural possibilities of Keyhouse… and especially vulnerable to the unnatural forces circling his family.

Frances O’Connor will be playing Bode’s mother, Nina Locke.

“Locke and Key” is a horror/fantasy series that revolves around three siblings who, after the gruesome murder of their father, move to their ancestral home in Maine only to find the house has magical keys that give them an array of powers. Little do they know, a devious demon also wants the keys, and will stop at nothing to attain them.

Comic book creator Hill and Cuse (“Lost”, “Bates Motel”, “The Strain”) are collaborating on the script for the hourlong pilot. Cuse will exec produce alongside Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti and Cuse’s Lindsey Springer, who serves as head of the latter’s production company. Cuse will serve as showrunner, while Muschietti will direct the IDW Comics drama. IDW Entertainment president David Ozer and Hill also exec produce.

Writer in the horror community since 2008. Editor in Chief of Bloody Disgusting. Owns Eli Roth's prop corpse from Piranha 3D. Has two awesome cats. Still plays with toys.

Legendary Grimdark ‘Warhammer 40,000’ Artist John Blanche Has Passed Away at 78

In the grim darkness of the far future there is only war, but it was a cheerful illustrator from England who helped to define the terrifying war-torn imagery that inspired what we now know as Grimdark (a hybrid genre combining horror with sci-fi/fantasy).

Unfortunately for fans of Warhammer 40,000, Trench Crusade and countless other sources of Grimdark thrills, veteran artist John Blanche passed away this week after struggling with health issues for the past few years.

While the artist retired back in 2023, he leaves us with an enormous legacy of iconic artwork that continues to inspire gamers and storytellers around the world to this very day.

The news is especially gloomy as it was only last year that Daniel Lowman and Napoleon Dynamite himself Jon Heder released The Grim & the Dark: The Search for John Blanche, a documentary following Heder’s exploration of the Grimdark genre culminating in a heartwarming encounter with Blanche in his own home.

Below is one of my favorite pieces by Blanche, his highly influential depiction of Warhammer 40k’s God-Emperor of Mankind on his Golden Throne.

We send our deepest condolences to John Blanche’s family, friends, and fans.
