“This is Ghost Island… the graveyard for bad Survivor decisions.”
Dating back to 2000, a whopping 35 seasons of CBS’s reality competition series “Survivor” have aired to date, with the 35th coming to a close just last night. As always, the end of one season brought a tease for the next one, which aims to be the most unique – as well as creepiest – season to date.
On February 28, 2018, CBS premieres “Survivor: Ghost Island.“
Brand new contestants will compete in Season 36, which will put them on the titular Ghost Island, an island literally haunted by the spirits (and tokens) of some of the worst decisions made across the first 35 seasons of the show. “For the first time ever, a new group of players will have the chance to reverse the curse,” the teaser explains.
Host Jeff Probst teased the new season in a chat with EW.
“We found a really creepy island that serves as Ghost Island and we designed it using actual Survivor items from previous seasons,” he noted. “For instance, castaways who spend the night on Ghost Island will sleep underneath the 35 previous torch snuffers. So as they drift off, they are reminded that one mistake can mean your death in the game. And every idol or advantage in the game will be from a previous season. These are the actual, authentic items from past seasons.”
He added, “The conceit is those items are haunted and have been living on Ghost Island. The new players will have the chance to reverse the curse and play them properly… or suffer the same fate. Ghost Island has an attitude. It’s a cocky island and it will taunt you. But if you are up for a challenge, it could be your salvation.”
