Comedy Writer Takes a Stab at Horror with ‘Creepshow’

Published

on

Late last week we told you that production is close to getting underway in Atlanta, Georgia on Shudder’s Creepshow revival, which will see effects master Greg Nicotero directing a handful of episodes. The first episode to go in front of cameras would be “Survivor Type”, based on the Stephen King story in which a man, shipwrecked on a desert island, reflects on his life and does the unthinkable in order to survive.

Now, thanks to Production Weekly, we learned that comedy writer-director Rob Schrab (Monster House, “Workaholics”, “The Sarah Silverman Program”, “Community”) will be directing at least one episode titled “Bad Wolf Down”.

In the episode, set to film this February:

“A group of World War II American soldiers, pinned down by a Nazi unit, resort to unholy and supernatural means to avoid capture, torture and death.”

Based on the iconic anthology film written by Stephen King and directed by George Romero, each episode of the anthology series will tell original fun and scary stories, and will be helmed by a different director. We’re told that each episode will consist of two stories.

Keep your eyes peeled here for more details as they arrive.

Lo-Fi Giallo ‘City Wide Fever’ Heads to Midnight Pulp Next Month

City Wide Fever streaming set for July

A film student finds herself trapped in a giallo nightmare in lo-fi horror movie City Wide Fever heading to streaming next month.

The meta horror movie by debut writer/director Josh Heaps begins streaming on Midnight Pulp on July 7.

In City Wide Fever, “Sam, a young film student, discovers a USB detailing the life and career of forgotten Italian horror director Saturnino Barresi. As she begins to investigate his mysterious disappearance, Sam finds herself pulled into a violent conspiracy eerily similar to those of the films she adores.”

Diletta Guglielmi, Angelica Kim, and Nancy Kimball star with Onur Tukel (Summer of Blood), Larry Fessenden (You’re Next), Carolyn Farina (The Age of Innocence), and comedian Ian Fidance.

Paul Lê wrote in his review, “To Heaps’ credit, this isn’t just a case of throwback filmmaking that’s been achieved with contemporary technology; the director used era-authentic equipment to help create this striking and nostalgic piece of modern horror. The end result is a movie that, despite all appearances, doesn’t entirely escape convention, but it’s also teeming with enough verve and style to make it feel fresh.”

Heaps produces alongside Vincent “Chenzy” Graziano. Maddin executive produces with Robert Forbes, Richard Stoeffel, Jim Stoeffel, Brooks May, Amanda Romo, Franklin Laviola, and Nicholas Laviola.

City Wide Fever is also available on Blu-ray from Vinegar Syndrome.
