Claes Bang (The Girl in the Spider’s Web) has been set to play the title character in BBC and Netflix’s upcoming “Dracula” series, alongside a cast that includes the recently added John Heffernan, Dolly Wells, Joanna Scanlan, Morfydd Clark and Lujza Richter.
Announced by Variety today, Jonathan Aris, Sacha Dhawan, Nathan Stewart-Jarrett, Catherine Schell, Youssef Kerkour and Clive Russell have also signed on.
The site adds, “Production is now underway, with Jonny Campbell (“Westworld”) directing the opening installment. Damon Thomas (“Killing Eve”) and Paul McGuigan (“Film Stars Don’t Die in Liverpool”) will helm Episodes 2 and 3, respectively.”
Written and created by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, the series is inspired by Bram Stoker’s classic novel and will re-introduce the world to Dracula, the vampire who made evil sexy.

The series will consist of three 90-minute episodes, expected in late 2019/early 2020.
“Dracula” was commissioned by Charlotte Moore, Director of BBC Content and Piers Wenger, Controller of BBC Drama. Gatiss, Moffat and Hartswood Films boss Sue Vertue Exec Produce alongside the BBC’s Ben Irving for BBC and Netflix’s Larry Tanz.
