Ryan Murphy Reveals New Vampire Series Details And Title: ‘Brides of Blood’

Brides of Blood

Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992)

While “American Horror Story” Season 13 may be underway now, prolific TV creator Ryan Murphy teased his follow-up project in August. Now, thanks to a new chat with Vanity Fair, Murphy has revealed his mysterious vampire series will be “Brides of Blood.“

Murphy told VF, “I’m making a vampire tale called Brides of Blood, so I can pay homage to my grandmother and what she loved—what we loved together. There’s always something for everybody. Maybe American Horror Story is not your cup of tea, but maybe you want to watch something that’s just like a white wine fun show, like All’s Fair. I’ve got something for you.“

Not only do we now know the series’ title, but it gives added context to Murphy’s previous comments that hinted toward the show’s literary inspirations: “The next thing I’m doing, I start shooting December in Europe — I’ve always wanted to do a vampire story, and I always wondered why nobody has made a show about these characters I love [from a book and movie adaptation]. So that’s the next thing I’m going to tackle.”

When asked about the genre variety in his work, Murphy said, “When I was a kid, I was very close to my grandmother, and her two favorite genres were musicals and Dracula.” It’s further context, confirming that “Brides of Blood” is exactly what it sounds like: a new series inspired by Dracula’s vampiric brides.

The Brides of Dracula in Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel have appeared in numerous adaptations, but have yet to fully receive the solo spotlight. At least not on the small screen. In 2020, ABC ordered a pilot for “The Brides” from “Riverdale” and “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, centered on the Brides of Dracula, but that did not move forward.

The series begins production this December in Europe, so expect a lot more details soon.
