For the 31st year(!), Discovery Channel’s week-long celebration known as “Shark Week” is once again swimming our way very soon, set to kick off on Sunday, July 28th.
We’ve learned some pretty exciting news about “Shark Week” 2019 from EW today, with the site announcing that the first-ever “Shark Week” original movie is coming this year!
Airing on Wednesday, July 31, 9 p.m. ET, Capsized: Blood in the Water stars Josh Duhamel, and it’s based on the harrowing true story of an October 1982 shark encounter.
“After a yacht bound for Florida capsizes during an unexpected storm, its crew is left to drift for days in the chilling waters of the Atlantic where they become prey to a group of tiger sharks. With the hope of rescue dwindling, the crew must do everything in their power to survive as the sharks continue to hunt them.”
18 new original programs will air as part of “Shark Week” this year, including “Expedition Unknown: Megalodon,” “Sharks of the Badlands,” “The Sharks of Headstone Hell,” “Air Jaws Strikes Back,” “Return to Shark Island,” “Sharks Gone Wild 2” and “Shark Week Immersion.”
