Stephen King Praises Netflix’s “Marianne” and Its “Stephen King Vibe”
Just a month ago, I praised the first trailer for Netflix’s “Marianne”, about a horror novelist who realizes her terrifying stories are coming true and returns to her hometown to face the demons from her past that inspire her writing.
I noted that the series looks to bring out the best in French horror, adding that it had a Stephen King quality to it. Thankfully, “Marianne” delivers in spades, and we’ve been gushing about it since it premiered on Friday the 13th. Landing somewhere between IT, “Stranger Things”, In the Mouth of Madness, and the works of French filmmakers Alex Aja and Pascal Laugier, Meagan declared the series “Netflix’s most terrifying original yet.”
Now, the great Stephen King has chimed in, offering his blessing while unironically comparing “Marianne” to his own works! Here’s what he had to say:
If you’re one of those sickos–like me–who enjoys being scared, MARIANNE (Netflix) will do the job. There are glints of humor that give it a STRANGER THINGS vibe. It also has (I say it with all due modesty) a Stephen King vibe.
