Freeform Announces “Siren” Season 3, Orders “Last Summer” to Series and Dates “Motherland: Fort Salem”

Freeform made a few genre-related announcements today, the first being that their killer mermaid series “Siren” will return for a third season on Thursday, April 2, 2020.

Deadline notes, “The series is based on a story by co-writers Eric Wald and Dean White, and is set in the coastal town of Bristol Cove, known in legend as an ancient home of mermaids. The legend part changed, though, when reality set in with the arrival of the mysterious Ryn (Eline Powell), who wreaks havoc on the small fishing town.”

The first *two* episodes will premiere on April 2nd.

Additionally, Freeform has ordered the ’90s-set, Jessica Biel-produced thriller “Last Summer” to series. The network had ordered up only a pilot episode back in November.

“Last Summer takes place over three summers–’93, ’94, ’95–in a small Texas town when a beautiful popular teen, Kate, is abducted and, seemingly unrelated, a girl, Jeanette, goes from being a sweet, awkward outlier to the most popular girl in town and, by ’95, the most despised person in America.”

“Each episode is told from the POV of one of the two main girls (Jeanette and Kate), which will have the viewers loyalties constantly shifting as more information is revealed.”

And last, Freeform’s new series “Motherland: Fort Salem” will premiere on March 18, 2020. You can check out the brand new trailer for that one below.

“Set in an alternate America where witches ended their persecution over 300 years ago by cutting a deal with the government to fight for their country, “Motherland: Fort Salem” follows three young women from basic training in combat magic into early deployment. In this world, the traditional roles of gender and power are flipped, with the more dominant women on the front lines fighting looming terrorist threats that are familiar to our world—but with supernatural tactics and weapons.”

Writer in the horror community since 2008. Editor in Chief of Bloody Disgusting. Owns Eli Roth's prop corpse from Piranha 3D. Has four awesome cats. Still plays with toys.
