“True Detective” Season 4? It Sounds Like HBO Has Something in the Works

Will we ever see “True Detective” Season 4? It’s been a while since we’ve heard a peep about the series from HBO and three years now since the third season wrapped up, leaving us to wonder if “True Detective” is officially dead in the water this point. Thankfully, that doesn’t seem to be the case, as HBO has offered a fresh new update on the series this week.

There’s something in the True Detective area, there’s things we’re feeling good about. I would say stay tuned on that one,” HBO and HBO Max Chief Content Officer Casey Bloys said in a statement this week, brought to our attention by Deadline today.

Just about one year ago, Bloys had suggested that series creator Nic Pizzolatto is no longer directly involved in “True Detective,” and that HBO was seeking out a fresh new voice.

Bloys said last year, “We’re working with a couple writers to find the right tone and take. It’s an area that could be very interesting and I think it would be interesting with a new voice. Quality is what’s going to guide us so if we end up with scripts that we don’t feel are representative or are not at a high enough quality, we’re not going to do something just to do it.”

“True Detective” premiered on HBO back in 2014, with the stellar first season being followed by second and third seasons that didn’t quite garner the same acclaim as that initial outing. It sounds like this one could go either way at this point, with the return of “True Detective” being entirely dependent on HBO nailing down the right approach with the right person.

But it sounds like *something* is brewing. So stay tuned…
