“The Walking Dead” – Norman Reedus Spinoff Series Finds a Showrunner

Norman Reedus spinoff

It was announced last week that the planned Daryl/Carol spinoff series set in the world of “The Walking Dead” is no more, with Melissa McBride exiting the series. That project will take the form of a Daryl Dixon solo series starring Norman Reedus, which now has a showrunner.

Deadline reports that David Zabel will serve as showrunner for the Norman Reedus spinoff project, replacing the previously announced Angela Kang (“The Walking Dead”) in the role.

Deadline notes, “While scripts for the spinoff were pretty far down the line before McBride’s departure, a strategic pivot is taking place now to meet the start of shooting overseas in the next two or three months.”

As for why McBride decided to exit the series, AMC explains, “Unfortunately, [McBride] is no longer able to participate in the previously announced spin-off focused on the Daryl Dixon and Carol Peletier characters, which will be set and filmed in Europe this summer and premiere next year. Relocating to Europe became logistically untenable for Melissa at this time. We know fans will be disappointed by this news, but The Walking Dead Universe continues to grow and expand in interesting ways and we very much hope to see Carol again in the near future.”

Other spinoff projects currently in the works from AMC include anthology series “Tales of the Walking Dead” and the New York City-set “Isle of the Dead” spinoff series.
