‘The Last of Us’ HBO Series Release Date Revealed Early

Published

on

If you were waiting on the release date for HBO’s adaptation of The Last of Us, you don’t have to wait any longer, as the HBO Max app has gone and spoiled it. Per the Naughty Dog Central Twitter account (along with several others), the HBO Max app posted a sneak peek of the upcoming adaptation, which also included the release date of January 15, 2023 in the description.

Keep in mind that HBO was going to officially announce the release date at some point, with Video Games Chronicle (whose insiders have confirmed the legitimacy of the January 15 release) saying that the plan for the reveal was to be later this week.

The series, which will air on HBO Max in the US, will cover the events of the first game, twenty years after modern civilization has been destroyed, as well as potentially some content based on The Last of Us Part 2.

Joel, a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie, a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey, as they both must traverse across the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.

Starring Pedro Pascal (“The Mandalorian”) and Bella Ramsey (“Game of Thrones”) as Joel and Ellie, respectively, the series also stars Gabriel Luna (Terminator: Dark Fate) as Tommy, the brother of Joel, Storm ReidAnna TorvJeffrey Pierce, Nick Offerman, Merle Dandridge, Nico Parker, Murray Bartlett and Con O’Neil. Video game voice actors Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson will also have roles in the series.

Kantemir Balagov (Beanpole) will be directing the pilot episode, with Jasmila Žbanić (Quo vadis, Aida) and Ali Abbasi (Border) also directing episodes.

And while you wait, check out the recent fan film by French writer/director Alexandre Delol.
